ILTA 2025 gathers 4,500+ professionals to tackle key industry themes

The ILTA 2025 Conference & Trade Show, held June 9–11 in Houston, Texas, convened over 4,500 liquid terminal professionals at the Marriott Marquis Houston and George R. Brown Convention Center, with OpenTAS’s CEO Harald Wentsch, CPO Monica Hildinger, and CMO Wolfram Wege leading discussions on transformative innovation. With 28 sessions, a trade show featuring over 300 exhibitors, and networking events including the Conference Reception and Golf Tournament, ILTA 2025 spotlighted energy autarky (energy as a universal right) and global cybersecurity as the industry’s core drivers. In alignment with these two lead topics, the conference further underscored digital transformation as essential for terminals that manage hazardous materials, fragmented systems, and 24/7 operations.

Tech solutions for fair energy and safer systems

To support energy as a universal right, discussions highlighted how the seamless integration of IIoT and SCADA, EAM, TMS, and ERP can optimize resources to ensure reliable energy access for all. In addressing the need to prioritize cybersecurity globally, terminals were urged to adopt secure IoT and cloud systems to protect critical infrastructure. Making the two lead topics a reality calls for the terminal of the future to rely on integrated systems, standardized processes, data accuracy, and effective change management, with the aim of delivering optimized costs, enhanced safety, and improved customer service. OpenTAS’s forthcoming fully integrated platform – built on Microsoft’s technology stack with cloud affinity – was well-received as a strategic enabler to achieve these goals by connecting terminals, supply chains, and government organizations, thereby driving seamless digital transformation.

Vision 2040: Smart Terminals driving sustainable transformation

Digital solutions, including EAM with predictive maintenance, TMS for streamlined terminal workflows, and IIoT for edge analytics, ensure compliance and efficiency while supporting energy access and security. Challenges like clean data, training, IT/OT alignment, and governance must be overcome to facilitate success in this arena. By 2040, terminals will feature seamless IT/OT integration, hyperconnected IoT, AI-driven autonomous operations, integrated platforms, and AR/VR-augmented workforces, thus advancing sustainability and energy equity.

OpenTAS expands U.S. presence and strengthens partnerships

OpenTAS is intensifying its US footprint, scouting new partnerships, and driving co-creation on its platforms. “ILTA 2025 paved the way for a secure, equitable energy future,” stated Wolfram Wege at the event. “It is humbling to witness the beating heart of the energy sector, with the co-creation of ideas blending the best of all worlds to drive progress.”
